Happy New Year from Viridity Software! As we start 2011, we've got some New Year's resolutions for the data center (including ours!) Here's our list:
1. Speed Up Asset Management - Let's start the new year with a clear picture of the current state of our data centers so that we know what we are working with. By taking stock of all of the physical data center assets and the less tangible resources like power and cooling. Viridity EnergyCenter software can quickly discover all of the networked equipment in your data center down to the component level which saves you time and is much more efficient that working off of old spreadsheets.
2. Plan for Data Center Capacity - With indications that data center budgets are being restored in 2011 after years of running with a smaller budgets, data centers are going to find that they are short on power, space and cooling. This leaves two options, cover your eyes and hope for the best or start planning for data center capacity by intelligently identifing opportunities for power, space, and cooling, capacity and scale.
3. Consolidate Servers - Most data centers still a have a large percentage of servers that are doing little or nothing for the business. Let's make 2011 the year you decide to identify and shut down or virtualize inefficient servers to save money and power for your organization.
4. Improve Data Center Infrastructure Management - Once you retire wasteful assets and properly plan for power, space, and cooling, you can move from data center damage control to data center optimization. Let's bring together IT and Facility management with centralized monitoring and management of critical data center infrastructure. Become of the growing number of data center managers who are adopting software solutions like Viridity's EnergyCenter as the single pane of glass view needed to get real time feedback on data center performance.
5. Go Green or Get Greener - This new year will be the year to measurably decrease energy consumption and increase efficiency. If you have already started a green data center initiative, aim higher and become one of a number of data centers that saving money by qualifying for data center rebates.
