Mike Rowan, co-founder and CTO of Viridity Software, will be presenting on “The Future of Data Center Energy Resource Management” and joining a panel discussion on “Energy Efficient Servers and Data Centers,” at the 1st Annual Server Design Summit, taking place next week on December 1, 2010 (Santa Clara Convention Center).
Mike’s presentation will explore why current energy productivity management methodologies that focus on how power is delivered to the data center are missing the mark; and why the future will be dedicated to understanding why it is being consumed. He will also cover why data center management needs productivity solutions that enable them to tie their applications to the specific IT equipment that supports them. He will conclude with a discussion about how proper energy productivity monitoring and management can impact both operational and capital expenses (real world case study examples will be used to show how to balance power, cooling, and utilization in order to save money, enhance service levels, and dramatically extend the life of the data center and its assets).
The panel discussion will continue in this vein with an examination of why much remains to be done to make servers and data centers energy-efficient. Solutions for improving hardware, software, design methods, and operating methods will be addressed. Essential next steps will also be presented, such as standards, energy monitoring and measurement, and the integration of energy management with overall data center design, planning and management. The focus will be on current approaches, recent advances in hardware and software technology, and key emerging methodologies.
We hope you can make it!
